This is an independent publication that I launched in November 2023. My intent is to provide detailed content in the forms of analysis, criticism and strategies of architecture, design, urbanism, ecology, critical theory, art, technology and ecology, subjects that have been involved with over 40 years. Who am I? Who is Gökhan Karakuş?
Gökhan Karakuş is an Istanbul and New York based designer, curator, business strategist, historian, architecture critic and theorist who focuses on the indigenous in modern architecture and design. He studied architectural history and theory at Columbia University and Vassar College in New York, and he is the Founder and Director of Emedya Design, an interactive and environmental design studio that produces design projects, exhibitions, publications and research in the areas of environmental graphic design, architecture, computational design, craft and design history. He has been Consulting Director at Istanbul based GAD Foundation leading research and educational programs. As a curator of public space he has realized architecture projects for Piyalepaşa Gayrimenkul, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Parks and Gardens, Polat Holding, Divan Hotels, Memorial Health Group, D.Hotelier/Macakızı Otel, Istanbul74 and GAD.
As a critic, he is a regular contributor to leading global publications on architecture, such as The Architect’s Journal, Architectural Record, Dwell, and Wallpaper; from 2011-2015, he was the Editorial Director of Natura, Stone Architecture, and Interiors. He is a co-founding curator of the Danish based collectible design online site, Adorno.design.
